Pay it Forward with Farm it Forward!

Farm It Forward: Growing a CSA Rooted in Mutual Aid

At the core of our farm’s mission is this belief: food should be accessible to everyone—not just those who can comfortably afford it. That’s why we started Farm It Forward, a community-supported, donation-powered program that helps make our CSA shares available on a sliding scale for families who need it.

While our overall CSA membership doubled in 2024 (a huge milestone!), our Farm It Forward capacity didn’t grow at the same pace. In 2024 and 2025, we’ve only been able to offer five sliding-scale or pay-what-you-can shares—most of them funded directly by the farm due to limited outside donations.

We want to change that.

🌱 Our Goal

We’re fundraising to bring Farm It Forward back to 10–20% of our total CSA membership, which has historically been our target.

More funds = more sliding-scale shares, more support for mutual aid fridges, and more seedling donations to community projects like the Siler City Community Garden and Seedlings for Seniors (organized by our amazing friend and CSA member Amanda Jones).

If you believe in food access, mutual aid, and community-powered farming, we’d love your help.

🎶 Special Fundraiser: Ukulele Show at Bynum General Store

To help support this work, Sarah-Lyona Perry, Uke Together teacher and In Good Heart Farm CSA member, is hosting a small, sweet Ukulele Fundraiser Show at the Bynum General Store.

🎟️ Space is limited, so attendance is by invitation only for current CSA members and Uke Together families. If you are an existing member, and didn’t receive an invitation, please email me, and I will gladly send you details.

It’s our way of saying thank you, building connection, and using music to support a program that means a lot to all of us.

💛 Can’t Attend but Want to Support?

Every contribution—big or small—helps a neighbor access fresh, local food.

🍅 A Bit of Background

Farm It Forward began in 2011 through partnerships with the YMCA, WakeMed’s Energize! program, EFNEP, and Wake County Cooperative Extension’s Cooking Matters initiative. Together, we combined subsidized CSA shares with cooking and nutrition classes to connect local food with families who needed it.

Since then, it has evolved into a flexible, community-funded program—providing sliding-scale shares, donating seedlings and surplus produce, and showing what’s possible when we grow and share together.

Thank you for being part of this work. Whether you’re giving, attending, or simply cheering us on—you’re helping build a farm and a food system rooted in care.

We would love to be your farmers! If you’re interested in joining our Fall/Winter CSA this year, we still have a few spots left. You can learn more and sign up here.
